Small Steps to Perfect Skin
We are starting the New Year with all kinds of resolutions and plans for a better, more improved, us.
Skin care is often one of those items where I hear our community say, “this year I must take better care of my skin.”
And often, that initial enthusiasm declines as we are bombarded with a slew of marketing campaigns and products that produce little or no effect on our skin. With hundreds of unqualified influencers, fresh out of school Estheticians, nurses, all kinds of doctors (who come from surprising fields like endocrinology or even something more obscure like a foot specialist) become self-proclaimed skin care experts. Housewives who own blenders are now selling at Sephora as well as beauty editors and random companies- selling you nothing but pure nonsense.
So, what do you do?
For starters you don’t need tons of products, triple cleansing or 18-layer skin care routines. First, start with an understanding of your skin type. You might not get it 100% correct but so long as you’re close enough, you’ll be able to purchase appropriate skin care. Of course, what you are currently using could greatly change your perception of what your true skin type is.
For example, if you are breaking out but using rich moisturizers, your skin is not dry, it's most likely oily. You only think it’s dry because the top layer of your skin is not exfoliated and therefore it looks and feels dry. That leads you to believe it’s dry, and now you are in this relentless cycle of using products for dry skin while always being congested.
So, let’s reset! Start fresh. Get rid of all drying cleansers and use one of our cleansers for the next 4 weeks, any of our two cleansers will do the trick! Wash your face in the AM + PM. Dry gently and apply our Weightless Moisturizer. Twice per week do our Red Carpet Facial. You can use our eye cream but that is it! Nothing else on your skin for the next 30 days.
If our products are a little out of your price range, try using the following:
For cleanser I recommend CeraVe Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Cleanser and for moisturizer, Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer. For your sunblock, I recommend Mermaid Gel or Image Sunblock + Daily Matte Moisturizer Oil Free SPF 32 (all available at your local drugstore or Amazon.) But remember sunblock are notorious for causing breakouts so while I feel that the above sunblock’s are the least likely to cause breakouts and irritations, still proceed with caution. Look out for itchiness, bumps, and rash-like conditions. Discontinue if you experienced any of these symptoms.
All in all, these no fuss skin care products deliver every time. Now, keep in mind, your skin might get oiler, dryer, or anything in between but we will never know what your skin is really craving until we get to see it really for what it is!
